Setting
DISCLAIMER If you somehow stumbled in here, a lot of information here is depreciated and in bad need of updates! So if you're being snoopy, just take anything you read with a grain of salt.
In 2016 CE, The Earth was Rended. A cataclysmic event of unknown origin ripped the Old World to pieces. Only through the protection and sacrifice of their invisible, adopted God, did humanity survive... Yet if it were not for her, this tragedy would have never came to pass.
The World was shattered and unrecognizable, with those still on it trying to survive in savage landscapes, filled with wild magic. The very air seeming destructive to the technology of the Old World, while daemons, physical representations of humanity's myths and legends, ran rampant across the land.
Despite this, Humanity endured.
Those without language or culture in common came together to build something new. Societies learned from each other, merging into new, unique cultures. Without easy access to technology, old ways of life returned, as did inequality. The Soul made humanity stronger, but in increasing humanity's potential, so too did it create the conditions necessary for tyranny. The Era of Kings and Queens returned, as did war. As the harsh hellscape faded, Humanity's greatest enemy once again became itself.
Now, it is the 5th Century of the New Era. The Earth is green again. The chaotic wastelands of the past are almost long forgotten. The rules of magic have been studied and refined. Magic's abrasive force on technology has weakened in some places, allowing for the rise of great cities of machines and steel. Cultures and ethnicity have fused and where English, Mandarin or Hindi are not the standard language, pidgins and creoles fill the gaps. Many Old World Languages are now only known by nobility and scholars, a time in history that is quickly becoming a footnote, even while scavengers dig deep under mountains for now ancient artifacts.
On Continuity and "Canon"
It's weird to be concerned with canon on a semi private lore wiki, but this I guess this is still relevant for people reading this who aren't me, since the "canonness" of some stuff is rather varied. We'll break this down by "solidness".
Tier 1: Brave Earth Prologue
As the first official BE thing I'll ever release, Prologue is the current tent pole of all lore. Anything on here talking about Prologue, 414 ACE, or adjacent time periods in the Aistoria area are pretty locked in. These things could change before release, or be later retconned, but they're as rock solid as you can get.
Tier 2: Tower in the Sky / Rending of the Earth
Major events mentioned in Tower in the Sky WILL happen, saving for some extremely unexpected change of heart. The exact execution of these events, along with supporting events, may change (and those possibilities will likely be talked about when I write about those things), but the key points I am likely to write up are pretty set.
Stories involving Scifera, the Sashni, and the End of the World fit in this too. The details may change a LOT but the major events on the timeline pretty much have to happen. These two events are the second and third tent poles for BE Lore, even if those poles haven't been risen yet.
Tier 3: Supporting History and Maps
Anything not put down in a lore book or mentioned in game but happening before Prologue fits in here. These things are my current idea of how things are. City names and borders may change, the scale of continents might change. Undeveloped characters on a family tree chart might get completely turned into someone different. The clay pot as been shaped, but it hasn't been baked.
Tier 4: Roleplaying
Events that happen in RP that I feel inclined to write here are blueprints for "canon" content. Will Naomi meet Ashara and realize she's hugely gay? Yeah, probably. Will Sinlen move away from Aistoria to pursue a blend of magic and science research? Yeah, probably. Will it take the same amount of time or happen in the same way? Almost certainly not. When I start talking about Roleplaying, it's best to think of it as first draft material.
