Timeline

A Timeline of the world, written mostly from the perspective of how these events were experienced by humanity. This will largely be focused on Aistoria, with some Simeria details, as this base timeline is for BEP. Eventually this will be extended, both in time and scope.

The Between Times

  • Oct 15th, 2016 CE 4:37pm UTC - When the Earth was Rended. A bright flash happens in the sky over South East Asia, and soon the earth is enveloped in light, dissolving away humanity. Those who remember seeing this describe it as apocalyptic, the world silently crumbling and dissolving around them.
    • To this day, no one has clear answers as to why this happened. Most treat it like some unknowable cosmic event, like the Earth being hit by an asteroid. Magical awakenings can just... happen? Meanwhile more religious groups, like the Aistorian Church, put it into their views. Hell opened up but the light of God came to save us.
    • Of course the reality is it is the result of the Great Karric Ritual to summon Scifera into the mortal plane so the Kar (and, incidentally, humanity) could fuse to her. Scifera spreads herself around the Earth and gives her energy to humanity so they can continue to live independently of her.
  • ??? - The Lost Time, or The Long Autumn of the Red Sky. A mysterious and dreamlike time before humanity truly returned to Earth. Not everyone who survived the Rending saw the Red Sky, but those who did describe feeling like they were drifting in and out of a dream, chasing loved ones, watching mountains move, wandering huge deserts or ruined cities, only to wake up later somewhere else. The largest consistent thing that people describe is the redness -- a red sky, red light, red sand. It's hard to pin down how long this period was, but guesses range from "Hundreds of Years" to the whole thing existing beyond time itself. Some claim to have lived coherently and lucidly during this time, but given the lack of any food or water, that is largely regarded as either lies of shaky dream logic.
    • The Aistorian Church interprets the Red Sky as hell, even though it is seemingly empty. Some who lived long enough to get deep into magic after returning to earth describe deep Astral Projection as a similar experience
    • Some did survive in the meta-magical realism time of the Long Autumn, though like lucid dreaming, it was still 'dreamlike'. The red look might be related to Scifera's long existence with the Kar on Mars? Ultimately the Lost Time is truly lost because while hundreds of years did pass, no... true, exact amount of time did.

The Modern Era

  • -80 to 0 ACE - Humans begin to awaken into a new world, with no sense of location or time. While most early people appeared as gropes, waking up in random fields or forests, people would just... show up, constantly, for the first few decades (Though this continues to a lesser to degree for at least the next 4 centuries). The world is green and seemingly untouched, but completely different. With no landmarks and massively displaced populations, no one has any sense of where in the world they are. Still, they begin to rebuild.
    • Obviously a lot of people wondered if this was the afterlife. Some wondered if this was still earth, but given the same moon (mostly) and planets, most wrote that off pretty fast.
    • While 0 ACE was set at some point, records eventually moved the time of the first people returning farther and farther back. -80 ACE is probably the most 'safe' guess of how far back stuff goes.
  • 30 ACE - Basic principles of magic begin to be understood. Many begin showing natural aptitude to controlling the spirits that seemed to pass through the world. Attempts to restore old technologies are met with failure, as many recovered electronics seemed to break moments after being used. Occasional monsters begin to appear. These monsters are said to resemble the monsters of Myths and Legend of the Old World.
    • Shiv gets started with technology, mostly salvaged. It's probably almost Mad Max over there for the first 50 years or so.
  • 61 ACE - A number of growing cities in the Aistorian and Simerian continent gather together to share information and standardize new international policies. Year 0 is set to the year thought to have most people return to earth. This era is mostly commonly referred to as After Common Era (ACE). Eventually the Holy Aistorian Catholic Church would adopt Anno Novus Mundi. As both use the same dates, this is symbolically much like AD vs CE
  • 78 ACE - The First Great War of Magic. Aleksander Orso, the Greatest Sorcerer of this new age, becomes the first to learn how to exploit Daemons for the purpose of war. Conquers Ryaith in a bloody and cruel invasion before appearing suddenly on the South Coast of the Valis in Aistoria. This war established many of the practices and tactics that would become standard for The New World.
    • The demonic nature of Orso's monsters helped codify a lot of the religious undertone of Aistoria, who treated Orso's daemons as literal demons.
    • While unknown to history, Orso was a pathetic, miserable used car salesman, banal in his evil until the modern world allowed him to give into his horrid desires.
    • How Orso invaded so suddenly is unknown. Spoilers: Waterway gates! Collapsing the waterway in that area by sending too many troops through is what stopped the island of Moldano from sending endless daemons.
  • 83 ACE - Orso’s forces are defeated and his remaining cultists escape with Orso’s body across the sea. The colonize the large island of Orso Moldano which is seen by many responsible for many of the monsters that are found around the world. The Daemon's seem to wander the area
    • While Orso Moldano is filled with daemons, most daemons around the world don't come from there. Daemons tend not to stray far from where the were created without human intervention. OF course, there are exceptions...
    • Orso's soul still lives. He is one of the several things that could be seen as a "deity", even though nothing is truly powerful enough to be one. His body is entombed in The Shadow Tower, where he can still, on occasion, be consulted.
    • Orso got a magical head start on people due to the Karric texts found in Ryaith and Moldano. His ability to "summon demons" was a lie. Daemons naturally appear near the Shadow Tower (which is related to the Great Karric Ritual), he just realized that they are simple and easy to exploit.
    • A lot of Orsen Cultism still exists in Aistoria, even though people like to pretend it doesn't. Relevant to Prologue
  • 102 ACE - The beginning of the Warring States Period of Aistoria, a series of wars spanning the next 200 years, caused by the power vacuum left after the First Great War of Magic. The Warring States Period beings The War of 100 Kings represents the initial several decade scramble for land made by the various regional commanders.
  • 150 ACE - The map of Aistoria begins to consolidate, leaving a handful of Kingdoms left to fight and consolidate their borders. Roughly when the War of 100 Kings is considered to have ended.
    • Probably a dozen or so countries at this point. Connatia's borders have probably just the coastal area, protected by mountains. Bherigan is perhaps 4 or 5 separate kingdoms at this point. Vaniway is extended into Esperada and both it and Golgia probably are taking big pieces out of what would eventually become Birchmark.
  • 155 ACE - Holy Aistorian Catholic Church is formed. Gregory XVII is elected first Pope of this new church. The Church sets forth to prepare the world for the second coming of the Lord. The New Vatican is established in the city of Alessandra, in the most prosperous lands in Leone. Gifting the City State to the Vatican
  • 180 to 192 ACE - The War for Northern of Independence was series of conflicts and alliances which allowed the north to push out Vaniway and Golgian advanced. These alliances eventually lead to the country of city states known as Birschmark to form.
  • 210 to 231 ACE - The Lion's Wars featured a shifting alliance between Esperada and the former country of Steier against the former country of Leone until it was forced to surrender and fall under Esperaden rule.
    • A key element of the conflict was Esperada's push to conqueror the lands around the Vatican and acquire the same political power Leone had from it. Instead, Leone seeded a large portion of it's land to the Church before surrendering, forcing Esperada to cease it's advances as to not risk aggressing against the Church directly.
    • Esperada spared the Cruz family and allowed them to continue ruling their remaining lands. While the move to gift land to the church was taken with begrudging humor at the time by the King of Esperada, later generations would look at it as Leone cheating Esperada, looking at those lands as rightfully theirs.
  • 253 to 256 ACE - The Bherigan Succession War - After several mergers and breaks, Bherigan finally forms a single nation. Large parts of of southern Bherigan end up staying with Connatia.
  • 260 ACE - Roughly end of the Warring States Period. While the period officially ends in 282, there are roughly 20 years of relative peace.
  • 282 ACE - Pope Nicholas VII elected and attempts to spread Papal power. As his reign goes on he begins controlling Aistoria with an iron fist, executing even leaders for crimes of heresy. The continent prepares for another Great War.
  • 301 ACE - Margret Alistair, a young nun at the Vatican, assassinates Pope Nicholas by snatching a rapier from a nearby guard and stabbing Pope Nicholas through the heart.
  • 302 ACE - The Great Reformation. Alistair, now known “Bloody Maggie”, leaves the covenant to form the all female Order of the Rose, dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the Holy See.
  • 310 ACE - The Second Warring States Period, also known as the Aistorian Unification.
  • 361 ACE - Alistair is killed in battle. She is immediately given Sainthood. The Order is renamed the Sacred Order of Saint Alistair.
  • 363 ACE - The Aistoria Combine is established and warfare between Aistorian nations becomes extremely rare. The combine continue war in the north to bring the snowy nation of Danere into the Combine.
  • 392 ACE - The Sacred Order of Saint Alistair suffers severe casualties in the Battle of the White. The unit is removed from active combat and is sent back to Vatican territory to better fulfill it’s original purpose.
  • 393 ACE - The Northern state of Danere is made to join the Combine and obey church rule. A period of relative piece follows.
  • 414 ACE - Brave Earth: Prologue
