Reese's modern history still being fleshed out. Being someone who coincided with real history, making a timeline for her life is taking a lot of research.

History
Rough Timeline
1901: Born Maria Theresia Wallner (or 'Resia) to a pair of two giant butchers.
- I think they might both be taller than her but her dad is probably big, round and like 6'7.
- She's a huge tomboy, unsurprisingly. She takes to hunting with her father where she ends up being an incredible shot.
- Has migraines a lot, related to her vision. She has much stronger than average 'lens accommodation', but flawed overall vision. Reading or looking at things super far away too long gives her eye strain and headaches.
World War 1
- 1915-1917: Currently I think this is when she decides to go to war. Young Reese has a lot of nationalism in her.
- I don't know why NOW exactly like I don't know how German's felt about the US declaring for the war. She could also have gone earlier just out of general frustration hearing about the lack of troops.
- Her parents could have died. Or maybe they managed to pay to send her to school or something? And frustrated and barely able to read yet with her eyes, she just bounces. Leaning toward this one.
- Acquires the name Johannes Oskar Klein from some dead boy.
- 1918: Reese meets Kayin. Kayin totally flirts with the "cute boy". Reese totally blows her cover with him like an idiot and the two hit it off extremely well.
- Kayin visits her when she gets rotated off the front and worries like a baby all the time.
- Reese also needs the stress relief as the war is going worse and worse.
- Kayin gets her glasses, explaining her headaches are because of her eyes, which she doesn't realize because technically she can "see fine".
- Scifera plays out the future she expects in her head. As usual, this goes poorly, though not as poorly as it could have.
- She decides Reese is the perfect wife for Kayin to eventually have a child with. She seems mentally flexible enough to adapt to a long life span and goes GREAT and quietly gifts her with a type of limited immortality. She tells no one, as she has resisted direct communication with Kayin.
- Kayin feels himself falling for her, can tell she's falling too, and decides he's sick of outliving his wives and bounces. Scifera in shambles. Reese isn't sure if she should be mad or sad. He could have disappeared for a number of reasons, but that and the loss of the war, and the horrors she saw really mess her up.
A lot of exact details are still in the air. Where did she fight, why she ran away to join the army exactly. The bordering school thing kinda works, but it's still a fresh idea. I like that it plays into her inability to read well early on.
Interwar Period
- 1918-1938: Finally has glasses and can read without getting a headache, so she just starts reading a lot. Lots of Marxist philosophy.
- Goes to Russia. An alternative version of this is she becomes a Russian POW and gets radicalized.
- Possibly fights a little, but then hangs out in Russia for years. Not thrilled about that Stalin guy but she loves the vision.
- Sometime around the purges, she bounces, disillusioned. She also has become increasingly alarmed that she hasn't aged in like 20 years.
I think in this period she reads and learns a LOT. This is probably when she starts learning lots of languages too.
World War 2
This is a tricky one because traditionally, Reese joins the Wehrmacht. I'm second guessing this, though. I can see her wanting to still defend her country, even if she hates the ruling party. Regardless, at some point she either defects from the army or falls immediately into counter-nazi activity.
- Her stint in the Wehrmacht could be short. She could get into occupied France, get connections, then use her position to work with French Resistance.
- Even if she stays mostly loyal she may still sabotage the SS.
- Like a lot of people in Germany she probably massively underestimated Hitler. SURELY the system will slow him down!
- Basically hoping for what most people are at this point. That people bit for peace and Germany can use its gains to negotiate a more restrained de-escalation while keeping a lot of territory.
The traditional version after this is Reese ends up with British Commandos, likely after some kind of firefight. Tempted to place this during Operation Chariot as that's a big battle with a lot of casualties and a lot of captives and there is a lot of room to wiggle around the real history.
- An injured Reese is trying to snipe at some escaping commandos but can't quite do it. Possibly gets into hand to hand combat where she can take someone hostage.
- They realize she speaks english and talk her down (She's outnumbered and they just wanna save their buddy and also figure a captive might help them get back).
- Their medic has to treat her wounds and they realize she's a woman, which they don't know what to make of
- During their escape they start growing fond of their prisoner, who is tired, disillusioned, and Nazi hating. Reese probably also gets exposed to fact the atrocities being carried out in her countries name are worse than she thought
- At some point in a fire fight with SS or the Gestapo or something... either their sniper gets killed or she gets access to her rifle and just smokes a bunch of people.
- They gain trust in her and let her carry her weapon. She tries to stick to a policy that she will only kill nazis, but this will be a pledge she can't maintain, especially when she sees even normal soldiers take part in atrocities.
Eventually they escape out of France into another country and escape. Now a functional member of the unit, they give her a fake name John Rhys Becker. Her and members of the unit that adopt her end up operating with SAS and the French resistance.
At some point around the tail end of the war, Reese sees Kayin, who ALSO looks the same, shoots him in the leg when he tries to run (he has no idea why she's still alive), and the two... figure some things out.
Post World War 2 to the 2016
Reese and Kayin wander around all over. Reese keeps reading. After some revolutionary activities, they end up in America where she (and frankly Kayin too) becomes a huge hippy for awhile. This is probably when the two kinda become swingers. Kayin seems impotent and they're traveling all over so sex just becomes a fun thing thing. Reese seems flexible, keeping up with the changing trends and styles as the world changes around her. By comparison, Kayin always looks a little anachronistic wherever he goes.
- Reese as she gets older more and more leans radical anarcho-left. Probably an anarcho-syndicalist or something.
- She obviously loses her nationalism pretty hard. She lives through WW1, Hitler, and Stalin. She doesn't trust states or charismatic leaders.
- If the world didn't end in 2016, she would have likely committed certain... political assassinations. All while Kayin is like WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO INTERFERE LIKE THAT!!!
- "YOU'RE not allowed to interfere, that has nothing to do with me!"
- She really doesn't keep the crossdressing going but come the 80s and 90s she's probably down to rock a cool suit.
- Likely still gets herself dragged into military situations in other countries, though that goes down over time due to Kayin trying to make her chill outl
- The fact most of these revolutions don't work out super well is demotivating.
- There is advantages to being in the US at this point but Reese in particular has a very very strong distrust for the country.
- Part of why she doesn't mind being there, actually. Close enough to keep an eye on the meddlesome beast.
In 2000 CE she gives birth to Cassara. At this point, Scifera starts talking to them more.
Revolutionary Involvements
I imagine Reese getting involved around the world in various political uprisings while traveling with Kayin. This is the beginning of me formulating a timeline for that.
- Late 1940s to Early 1950s Reese is likely involved in South East Asia, helping train, smuggle arms, and even fight during the August Revolution and other uprisings in places like Malaysia.
- 1950s Involved in South America, likely in Cuba, Bolivia, and early Sandinista activities Nicaragua.
- 1960s-70s Maybe bounces around with the Tupamaros some, probably growing increasingly unsatisfied at how these revolutions turn out and becomes a hippie.
- May have been on the ground for the invasion of Iraq, but not under any official capacity.
- MGS4 type Old Snake shit.
Reese likely supplied and trained, where she could. She likely had many many connections to help smuggles arms about.
Brave Earth
Reese and Kayin come back together in Simeria in 406 ACE, 8 years earlier and on a totally different continent from Cassara. They sense she's still alive, but fail to find her. At some point, either before or after Cass defeats Zephan, they reunite and move to Steeton, which acts as their base of operation to different parts of the world using the Waterway Gates.
- Reese has natural affinity for old world guns. Any old world gun she finds and restores can basically be used by her anywhere. Even when they fail, they tend to fail non-destructively.
- Magical bullet resistance is still a thing so that weakens her at long range.
- She can use really high power ammo to try and compensate. Magical resistance reduces speed, but not actual range that much, almost like the bullet is in slow motion.
- Maintainability and ammunition are a big concern. She has to be conservative with stuff like her 5.7x28mm guns because the high quality specialty ammo for it is rare and hard to self-reload. That said, she can probably get things custom made in Shiv.
- A lot of the most common handgun and rifle ammo calibers are still in use, especially stuff that'd be kept as military surplus.
- Over the years she accrues a large collection of gear.
- As much as Reese is a terrifying sharpshooting monster in the New World, her bond to old world guns kinda represents her time passing. As someone who kept up with modern gear and equipment, being stuck in place with guns from the past represents the type of stagnation she was supposed to be resistant to.
- Reese's eyesight probably gets more extreme. The New World seems to bring the best out of people.
- Despite being the "oldest person alive" in a date-to-date sense, despite being some kind of immortal, Reese isn't ever the oldest person alive. When the world ends, she's 115, the 4th oldest person at the time. By the time she returns to Earth, there are old world humans who have lived possibly into their 200s.
- She's definitely the least aged, though someone like Heidrian who is aged and grey and is probably drifting around 200 is still a physical beast.
- Reese is like a more extreme version of that type of "immortality" than what Kayin has. Her soul is so strongly impressed she can't really age, while Kayin isn't even human.
Reese's Various Names
Reese has had many names through out her long life.
-
Reese was born Maria Theresia Wallner, where she was called Theresia or Resia for short. This is the name she would use when not presenting as a man between the two World Wars.
-
When joining the army in World War I, the name of a dead boy she used was Johannes Oskar Klein, where her nickname was Hanzi.
-
When serving in World War 2, she used a name she had completely fabricated Johannes René Wallner. She used René just because she liked it.
-
After switching sides and working with British special forces, she used the name John or Joanna Rhys Becker, Rhys/Reese coming from commander of the unit that captured her shorting the name Theresia. This is possibly a thing Kayin did too. She likes it, it sticks. She's given a fake British alias just to make things easier. She probably switches to Joanna once they drop back into France, where operating openly as a woman has advantages.
-
After the war, and before marrying Kayin she's Reese Johanna Maria Wallner, before eventually being Reese Nasaki. During down periods, she'd generally change names and pose as daughters of her self by reshuffling around her various names into new legal names, though she almost never goes back to using Theresia.
While mostly she just goes by Reese now, Kayin will sometimes call her Jo, and some other friends sometimes use Hansi.
Reese's old last name used to be Dresdner but it didn't match where she was actually born.
Personality and Relations
Reese is like a more well rounded version of her daughter. She can seem intimidatingly chill, but her blood runs hot. That said, she lacks the sheer irrational rage of her daughter, and generally is less anxious.
- Reese loves reading. It was something she couldn't do that much of when she was young. She loves sitting around and reading books.
- Reese and Kayin love learning languages. They'll both try and learn ones at the same time so they can practice with each other.
- The two like to play scrabble in different languages.
- She won't randomly bring up politics but she is very political.
- The Free Cities was probably her choice, but she's probably frustrated by how they're kinda cursed by capitalism.
- Low key affectionate. Can act cool and cold but won't act too good for a hug.
- Will totally smoke weed with you. A fairly regular but completely reasonable pot smoker.
- The actual reason she seems so mellow all the time.
- Certainly did a lot of stuff as a hippie but at this point it's just weed and drinking.
With Kayin
- Frustratingly still in love with each other.
- Not as outwardly romantic as him, but she likes it.
- They're good at giving each other space.
- Also plays well with them being open.
- They tend to fool around with other people together, but sometimes you need a break.
With Cassara
- Her accidentally cool exterior leaves Cass always wanting to be like her while yearning for more open, obvious love.
- Reese also has to be the bad cop more, because Kayin is a wuss.
- She IS a loving and affectionate mother, but due to their fucked up lives, she can't give her the amount of attention Cass needs.
- Cass is already kinda feral at 16, being alone for a few years in a fucked up new world did NOT help
- Cass wears glasses because she thinks her mom looks cool.
- The two love drinking together later in life.
Gear
Reese has a large collection of Old World guns, found both by finding caches herself or by buying them from Shivic auctions. I feel like Reese isn't v3ery sentimental with guns and very adaptable to new technology and ideas (one of the things that made her suitable for an extended/immortal life), so most of her gear picks are pretty modern, with the obvious cutoff being before 2016 (and anything too close to that probably not being wildly available enough for her to find).
She'd likely be running new Shivic gear (and probably does, when operating around Shiv), but her natural affinity for these old guns guide her choices.
Handguns
-
Beretta 92FS Go to pistol for any kind of loadout. For her time in the Old World, Reese had a preference for 9mm
-
FN Five-SeveN Pistol of choice when paired with a P90. Both are used sporadically though due to limited ammunition in the New World.
-
Luger P08 The more sentimental pick. She'll carry this sometimes when she's out and about but never something she takes on a mission.
For larger calibers, due to larger threats in the New World.
-
H&K USP 45 Tactical Tempted to go with the Mark 23, but that just seems excessive. SIG-Sauer P220 or an FN FNX-45 are the other candidates for this spot.
-
Glock 29 A 10mm subcompact and likely every day carry, especially in the New World where bullet velocity is important.
-
Desert Eagle I think she genuinely hated this gun in the Old World, seeing it as a big dumb useless brick. Now, .50 caliber rounds are good for something. Still, if she needs big grounds...
-
S&W 460XVR A MASSIVE revolver, usually loaded with S&W .460, pretty much the highest velocity handgun round you can get.
Sub Machine guns
Usually what Reese carries when she's deploying with a sniper rifle.
-
FN P90 Her favorite old world sub machine gun, but ammo and other complications make it more of a sometimes choice in the New World. Preferred when she thinks she needs a lot of ammo.
-
HK MP5 Pretty much the best 9mm sub machine gun. A boring but correct choice.
-
KRISS Vector This thing is such a meme-y looking gun but the UMP ain't exactly a great gun so if she wants to shoot .45 or 10mm on a premium platform, well... It's literally the only other choice.
Assault Rifles
Reese often operated as a Designated Marksmen, which reflects in her choices.
-
FN SCAR Has modularity to easily switch barrels out for different roles, where to do the same thing with on HK she'd need a 416 and a 417, though all 3 are probably guns she's used.
-
Steyr AUG Just one of those guns that was so successful for so long and fits her skillset. I imagine she likes bullpups in general, due to wanting extra barrel length without increasing length.
-
Dragunov SVD Another sentimental favorite, likely a gun she used in a lot of questionable conflicts later in the Old World. Not the best, actually, but I'm going to assume hers is pretty honed in and juiced out.
Sniper Rifles
While Reese is a skilled sniper, she usually snipes with her assault rifles. The pure sniper rifles only come out when she has to hit something FAR away.
-
McMillan TAC-338 Great long range sniper, but with magical resistance, such long range kills are even harder, so of limited use... though I'm sure it comes out.
-
DSR-50 Her .50 of choice, and probably more practical in the New World. an Anti-Material rifle, and most material doesn't wobble around or lean, or do people things.
As a random note, I think Reese would have ended up preferring the Lee-Einfield sniper rifles of WW2. Where all armies binned the best rifles produced for snipers, the British went the extra mile to also customize and tune those guns.
I don't think she pulls out machineguns much, but if she did it'd probably be like a SAW or an MG 3 or something.
Gear Loadout Style
I imagine Reese running equipment sets like...
- Sniper Rifle, Some kind of PDW, Small Handgun
- Sniper Rifle, SMG or Large Handgun
- Battle Rifle, Large Handgun
- SMG, Large Handgun
Dealing often with long, unsupported deployments, matching small arms ammo is probably preferable (P90 and Five-seveN, KRISS Vector and the Mark 23). Reese, who is kinda a tank, is good at deploying with pretty heavy load-outs.
