Vannaleona

Capital of the Leone region of Esperada. Ruled by the Cruz Family, who formerly were the Royal family of Leone. One of the twin cities that guards the river up to the Vatican.

Vannaleona is a beautiful city of beautiful old buildings and terracotta roofs. It has beaches more fit for the ocean and beautiful walk ways. It was massively renovated by Duchess Valentina vos Cruz to maintain the cities prestige in the post war, post Kingdom of Leone period.

Locations

Leona Castle

One of the oldest big castles in Southern Aistoria.

  • It's old so it's kinda run down from a livability perspective.
    • Probably a good 300 years old or so?
  • Even in the best of times, the humidity and heat did the castle no favors.
    • Deeper stone rooms in the basement tend to at least be cooler.
  • The Castle is no longer the active residence of the Cruzs. It acts as a government administration building
  • The outer court is public now. Kinda a museum/recreation center.
  • The bridge goes under the castle. While it's possible to get through the tunnel into the castle, it is extremely difficult. Meanwhile, monitoring the tunnel from the castle basements is easy.
  • The Throne Room is still intact and maintained and is occasionally shown in tours.

Cruz Estate

  • Built much later, perhaps by Valentina vos Cruz?
  • The Estate grounds used to be the old game lands of the Cruz Family.
  • The lagoon, like all the beaches in Vannaleona, is artificial and made from imported fine sand.
  • Faces the prevailing winds.
  • Features large windows and big open semi outside hallways to maximize airflow.
    • Modernly, it has slightly more climate control options, from magic to actual air conditioning.

Great Riyan Square

Big open plaza with a giant statue of Riyan and a Lion, up on a huge pedestal.

Valentina Cathedral

The big beautiful Cathedral commissioned by Valentina

  • The base may have been started by Balan vos Cruz to start solidifying the Cruz relationship with the church.
  • Valentina definitely pumped up the grand aspect though.

Valentina Plaza

Valentina turned the old bathing and washing grounds into a beautiful plaza that gently slopes down into the water.

  • In spring, the river floods and a lot of the plaza ends up partially underwater. It has beautiful pillars and constructions designed to look gorgeous when the plaza is filled.
  • The water, when it floods, gets anywhere from a few inches to 2 or 3 feet.
  • All the shops in the area are designed with flooding in mind.
  • The Spring Water Festival happens here!
  • Basically, it turns the flooding into an attraction.

Castille Bridge

The massive, high bridge that lets large boats under it and connects Leone and Steier. Leads directly into Stenin. Old stone work, though it's had many renovations. In modern time it is probably used more for foot and horse traffic. Trains and heavy vehicle travel must go a longer route farther up north.

Daksina and Uttara Beach

After years of war with Stenin, Valentina tore down the old wars and refinished the ruined coastlines.

  • The beaches feel very ocean like but we no waves.
  • The water is fresh. The Erraldoi spits out a lot of water so no salinity makes it up into the estuary.
  • The water is remarkably clean and clear. It is Vanneleona's "Freshwater Sea".
