Aistorian Holidays and Festivals

Aistoria being a largely Neo-Catholic society, comes with the same set of religious holidays, mostly centered around the Easter based holidays, and Christmas. Lesser Saint holidays have fallen out of popularity, but All Saints' Day is still a popular holiday. Some regions, with more mixed religious influence, simplify the the whole easter/christmas thing down to a day or two and insert their own old world holidays.

Atop that, a number of other holidays exist.

  • Unity Day, February 22nd, both celebrates Aistorian's victory first Orso Moldano in the First Great War of Magic, while also acting as a Remembrance Day. They day was pushed more once the Combine was created as a way to remind the countries of their shared history of cooperation.
  • Saint Alistair Day, July 8th, Celebrates the Sainthood of Margret Alistair on the day of her death.
  • The Day of the Restoration, September 1st, is the day the Holy Aistorian Catholic Church elected it's first Pope.
  • The Day of Arrival, October 15th, is a day that frames the Rendering as God's appearance on earth, proof of his existence.

Each country has it's own set of holidays too, often a harvest festival, national/regional pride days, celebrations of royal birthdays. Since Esperada is the focus of most stuff...

Esperadan Holidays

Leone has the spring Water Festival during the flooding season of that effects the Rio Almada, Serra, and River Erraldoi, growing lots of water hungry crops. While this festival is usually determined by when a flood occurs, the Erraldoi is controlled by a dam and canal system up by Alessandria, making the floods predictable and controlled. Vannaleona thusly always celebrates on April 5th.

Goa and Leone both celebrate Diwali for their harvest festivals. Diwali historically tends to have drifting religious meanings depending on the regions it's practiced in, so it's a perfect festival to survive into the new world.
