More on Daemons Karric and Old Daemons and Phantasmagoria
So one thing I had to flesh out with Daemons was 'okay so is anime sometimes real?' like if these are weird cultural reflections that exist, wouldn't recent pop culture pop up? So the answer is Mostly No but Maybe.
Things that pop up into physical space tend to be negative and old. Negative cause the Karric souls that make up most of the aether field are hateful bitches, and old cause well... those have had the most time to build up importance and imprint themselves in the astral planes. Humanity was given weak souls super early on so old legends and monsters that have survived to be reinforced through millennia have the post chance of popping up. It's probably easier for newer ideas to influence an old idea (the presentation of a monster) than it is to make a new thing show up (super villain). Also the better a daemon can "work" the more likely it is to turn around. Like if Super Man popped up as a daemon, it'd barely work. A new daemon can't really be that powerful and it lacks the empathy and awareness to do it's role, so it fades away.
Meanwhile something like an Orc is surprisingly new, but is similar to old ideas, and is well within the envelope of power for a new daemon.
Karric Daemons
Another thing with Daemons is that they have no memory. If you're hunting some, idk, Giant daemon and you fight it and it escapes, and you find it a day later... it has no recollection of the previous fight, or that you caused it's current wounds, or whatever. Daemon's are arguably not even sentient, and if they are, it's barely.
Karric Daemons are sapient. Usually limited, in almost a dreamlike way. These Daemon's made more directly from the nightmares of the Kar tend to be more abstract, singular entities and tend to be more directly malignant than normal Daemons.
There is only one canon Karric Daemon currently and that's BEP's Phantasmagoria, where even within the game, shows vindictiveness toward Sinlen once she defeats it. It wants revenge, and in RP, find her years later to try again. The dreamlike state of a Daemon is too strong for it to hunt her as doggedly as a human would, but when the chance arises, it remembers and it has the capacity to hate her.
Some old Daemons might exist long enough in friendly enough conditions to grow in sophistication to reach.. possible sapience. I imagine, kinda like AI chatbots now, a confident enough daemon could become very convincing in its intelligence and speech, while still being devoid of real human spirit. There are certainly old Daemons of like Demon Kings, worshipped as gods in Orso Moldano which act in ways that appear wise would have the facade break a little if pushed. So it's hard to say. Sapience is kinda an arbitrary line to begin with.
