Mafia: Game Gamma: GAME OVER: Town wins, troll wins
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:32:18 am »

Okay, guys, here we go. All the typical rules apply; no posting screenshots, no quoting PMs, however, you may not PM each other without my expressed permission. Other than that, the rules are pretty typical, bold and red to vote, you guys know the rules. So we go.

: Known Roles • show
Ellipsis (Town)
You are Ellipsis, a Linux user and PHP Programmer. Each night, you may trace someone’s computer activity, which will show you who they visited throughout the night. However, you must be careful – if you trace a spammer, it is possible that you may acquire a virus.

DraconicDescendant (Town)
You are DraconicDescendant, the forum’s resident prolific writer, rage machine, and game creator. You start with no rage points, but each vote on you generates a rage point. Each night, you may visit a player. During the next day, any votes for that player generate rage points for you, but you may not vote for that player (that player self-voting also doesn’t count, and nor do repeated votes by the same player on that person). Each night, if you have rage points, instead of visiting a player to gain rage points, you may post a rant against a player or PM your rage. If you post a rant against a player, you may invest any number of rage points. Each of these points translates into an announced vote against that player during the next day; if 5 or more points are invested, their role name and allegiance will be ousted as well. If you PM your rage, you may invest any number of rage points. Differing outcomes will occur depending on the number of rage points you use.
With one rage point, they will be alerted that someone hates them.
With two rage points, they will be unable to vote next day.
With three rage points, they will have their role action blocked for that night.
With four rage points, they will have their role action blocked, they will be told that someone hates them, and they will be unable to vote the next day.
With five or more rage points, they die.
Additionally, if you are ever banned, you may choose to kill one player.

Velocity (Town)
You are Velocity, a classic case of a reformed newfag. Each night, you may visit someone to check their Facebook. This will give you a small amount of information about them, although it won’t necessarily tell you their alignment or their role powers.

Evan (Town)
You are Evan, legendary wielder of the tactical nuke. Each night you may play Call of Duty with a player of your choice. Different players have different skill ratings – for instance, you’d much rather play against Kitty or IGN than Yule or Draco. This will give you a certain number of points depending on who you play. You may not play the same player more than once. When you get to 25 points, you may detonate the Tactical Nuke, which immediately kills all players and ends the game in victory for the Town. No, that doesn’t really make any sense, but that’s how it works.

The_Mark_XVII (Spammer)
You are a copy of the modern Mark’s former self, the spammer before his ban. You are unsure how you came into being, but you do know that while the Modern Mark is still alive, you are not at your full powers: you are also bonded to your current self somehow. Unlike your Town counterpart, you have some knowledge about your bond: any night action directed at one of you will be redirected to the other one. If Modern Mark dies, you will gain more power, but for now you may target a player each night to flood with Quina avatar spam. If they are not a Spammer, their role power will be blocked (assuming they have one).
Just by virtue of being a Spammer, you are let in on a few secrets about this game. There’s no organized “mafia” to speak of: while the Spammers win together by having the number of spammers equal the number of non-spammers, they do not know who each other are and do not have a collective kill each night. You also know that there are CENSORED other spammers out there…

Nolan (Town)
You are Nolan, legendary wielder of the Chance Train. Your night powers are based on the status of the current train. The “train” is the number of posts during the last day phase that are exact quotes of each other. That means that if Member 1 posts something, and Member 2 quotes it but adds something, that doesn’t count. It has to be just the quote alone. Addendum: Quote trains that contain posts that are not exact quotes will count, but only as half (rounded down) the total number. All players may only participate in each train once each day (the posts of non-players do not count). The train does not need to be continuous (regular posts can interrupt it), but only posts during the day count for that train. The train’s number is the total number of posts involved – this includes the original post. One last rule: you are not allowed to tell other players of your ability. You may tell them that your role is Nolan, and that you cannot disclose your role ability. That is all.
The powers you gain are as follows:
With a train of two, you may bowl someone over during the night, preventing them from using any night role powers.
With a train of three, your ability to bowl someone over is unstoppable.
With a train of four, you may add one point to your train for the next night.
With a train of five, you have resistance to one kill during the night.
With a train of six, you may add another point to the train for the next night (+2 in total).
With a train of seven, you learn the allegiance of the person you bowl over.
With a train of eight, you may protect one person that participated in your train from kills during the night.
With a train of nine, you may activate the full powers of the Chance Train during the night. This is your only night action if you choose to use it. The Chance Train has many effects, but most of them are good for the town…you’ll just have to find out if and when you can use it.

OLDGREG (Troll)
You are OLDGREG, a troll not aligned with the spammers of IWBTF or the Town regulars. Your goal is cause as much mayhem as possible – specifically, you win if Town has four or less remaining members if and when they win, or if the Spammers have two members or less members on their team if and when they win. Note that you do not need to be alive to win. You have a few powers to help you achieve your goal. Each night, you may choose a player and a new target. Any single-target night actions the player uses will be directed towards the new target you have given them. If you die during the night, the full role and role information of the person you targeted will be revealed to all. You may survive one banning, but this will reveal your status as a Troll. Finally, if you are ever tracked, it will appear that you visited any and all players that died that night. (Your actual night visit is untraceable).

Ybbald (Spammer)
You are Ybbald, the ultimate under-the-radar spammer. The blackout has caused you to lose all memory of reforming and becoming an admin of the forums; you have reverted to type and are now prepared to spam away. Each night, you may visit a player and choose another player. If the visited player is voting the chosen player at the end of the following day, you learn their role information; otherwise, you learn their allegiance. If they are a Spammer, you form a connection with them and may PM them back and forth, so long as I am included in on the PMs. If you successfully guess the vote of a player twice, that player dies.  If you are connected to all living Spammers, you no longer need to guess the vote of the player, and instead you will simply gain their role information in one visit. If you are visited by Velocity, you lose all role powers for the rest of the game on account of your life getting totally fucked.
Just by virtue of being a Spammer, you are let in on a few secrets about this game. There’s no organized “mafia” to speak of: while the Spammers win together by having the number of spammers equal the number of non-spammers, they do not know who each other are and do not have a collective kill each night. You also know that there were four other spammers out there…

Yule (Town)
You are Yule, legendary dark admin of IWBTF. The blackout has caused you to regain some of your former power and persona, and you have the ability to, once per game, emergency ban a player, removing them from the game. You may only use this power during the day by posting YULEBAN: Playername.

Peanutdude (Spammer)
You are Peanutdude, an infamous former spammer and troll of IWBTF. As Peanutdude, you have a special resistance to being attacked. You may survive one nightkill or role block (whichever one comes first, you will automatically stop it and your “shield” will go away; you will be informed at the end of the night that your shield is gone). In addition, you may troll one player in various ways every night: you may enrage them, offend them, or appall them. Enraging a player causes them to gain an additional mandatory action the next night: they must kill someone, but they will die along with their target. You may only enrage once. Offending a player causes them to be unable to vote on the next day. Appalling someone causes there to be an extra vote (announced at the beginning of the day) on that player for the next day.
Just by virtue of being a Spammer, you are let in on a few secrets about this game. There’s no organized “mafia” to speak of: while the Spammers win together by having the number of spammers equal the number of non-spammers, they do not know who each other are and do not have a collective kill each night. You also know that there are four other spammers out there…

Sibare (Town)
You are Sibare, legendary wielder of alts. You may utilize your alts in several ways; you begin the game with 3 alts available. Each day, you will generate an additional alt. Each night, you may sacrifice alts for various actions; sockpuppeting, dogpiling, or eliciting. For each alt you sacrifice to sockpuppet, your vote counts for one more the following day. You must sacrifice 5 alts to dogpile a person, which kills them. You may sacrifice 4 alts to elicit from someone, which gives you their role information.

Sodra (Spammer)
You are Sodra, an infamous spammer that has returned to IWBTF. Each night you may select a player to target with your underhanded spam attacks. That player will suffer negative penalties regardless of their alignment; they may have any night action they use redirected, or their night action might change its effects, or they might be silenced, or their vote might not count for the next day, or they might acquire a virus, or one of a few other random negative effects. On Night 3, you may choose to forgo your normal night action in order to post the ILOVEYOU virus. The ILOVEYOU virus will attach itself to a random town player (that town player is not alerted). If that player visits or is visited, from then on the ILOVEYOU virus kills the afflicted player and attaches itself to the player that was visited or visited the afflicted player. The newly afflicted player is told about the virus, and they will know if its effects. The day after the night you use the ILOVEYOU virus, the town will be alerted that it exists, but they will not be told the entirety of its effects until the following day.

: Known Information • show
Town is made of up the regulars. The Spammers make up the mafia. Their numbers are unknown. There may also be other factions involved...

It began with an ordinary day on IWBTF. Members browsed to their heart's content, posting and viewing as they wished.

And then the blackout happened. The forums went down for a few days. And over those few days, members of IWBTF found themselves forgetting...just who they were. When they returned to IWBTF, knowing it was the source of their confusion, they found they could not remember their former personas. They remembered their name...but little else. Little did they know that their personalities had switched and intermingled.

The forum itself was different, too. Moderator and admin statuses had been stripped. Instead, a new system was in place: members would vote on who would be banned, one person each day, or no one, if it was chosen. Some old faces had reappeared: spammers, trolls, many that were banned long ago. And so the members of the forum were unsure, now, if they could trust each other. Some people had newly become older trolls. They would have to figure out who was who...and ban them from the forums forever, before it would be too late.

Role PMs will be going out shortly. The game begins on Night 1. You must send in night actions to me.

Assuming four mafia, sixteen players means three safe mislynches and no more, or one abstain and three safe mislynches, both barring player interference. Doubt that numbers will do much more good since I can't gimmick the player list.

Okay, I'm back online. For those of you confused about the rules, the Wikipedia page on mafia gives a quick rundown, although not all those things necessarily apply here. If you want more specific rules, just look through some of the older mafia threads.

Also, I've added some information to the OP. And don't necessarily expect this game - or the numbers of any side - to be as you expect...
